BARNSLEY GARDENS

Past Clients

This golf resort property is located on the grounds of a former plantation encompassing 3,300 acres located approximately 60 miles north of Atlanta, Georgia. The modern resort is expansive, including a golf course designed by Jim Fazio and two restaurants, The Grill and The Rice House.

Barnsley Gardens has many options for recreation including tennis courts, a Grecian-style pool, a gym, and a spa. German Prince Hubertus Fugger purchased the estate in 1988 with the objective of converting the plantation into a golf resort property.

Due to ineffective management, the property suffered financially, and in 2000, the Fugger Family hired one of our principals to effect a turnaround. When our principal took over, the property was operating at an occupancy rate of less than 10% and generating annual operating losses in the millions. Under our leadership approach, the property dramatically improved its sales and marketing efforts and operations, training and cost management. Our principal also added amenities such as an Orvis endorsed and guided 20-station sporting clay course along with guided game hunting on the resort's 1500-acre Springbank Plantation.

Leveraging the property's romantic setting and lush grounds, our targeted sales programs turned the resort into one of the top wedding destinations in the region. Touting reasonable proximity to the Atlanta airport and the property's unique setting and amenities, our principal also built a strong conference program for businesses and organizations.

The resort also achieved numerous industry accolades including Condé Nast Magazine Gold List of World's Best Properties 2002 through 2005 and Travel + Leisure Magazine Top 500 in the World. When the Fugger Family sold the property in 2005, it was generating annual operating cash flow in excess of $2 million.
